Quem somos e o que fazemos
Who we are and what we do
Since I went on a family exchange program to Norway as a teenager, I knew that I would love to live and work abroad. As part of my BA in modern languages (English and Portuguese), I went on an Erasmus exchange to Cork, Ireland and ended up working there as a Portuguese as a foreign language teacher. I taught at several schools and universities in Europe (Ireland and Belgium) and Asia (China and East Timor) mostly to adult learners. In 2013, I moved back to Portugal and got a job in the University of Coimbra.
The favorite part of my job is to help students overcome their difficulties and become confident language users and that is the reason why I created this website and would like to help you improve your Portuguese language skills.
My vast professional experience has taught me that learning a language is not about studying the grammar, reading textbook-dialogues, or memorising commonly used sentences, but rather about USING the language (reading, listening, speaking and writing) in whatever context you need it for, be that professional or social.
Learning a language will open the door to a new culture and if you want to understand native speakers you must also learn about the culture. That was the drive behind the podcast “Expressões do Português Europeu” which I created back in 2015. This podcast aims to help learners of European Portuguese to better understand some commonly used proverbs and idiomatic expressions while also acquiring new vocabulary in a fun and relaxed way that can be done on the move.
In my free time, I enjoy listening to podcasts, reading books, swimming, cycling or playing padle depending on my mood, as well as hiking around my hometown and afar.
